Who is David Medina Photography?
We are not your traditional photography studio.
We are a Boutique wedding & portrait studio of husband and wife that love life, weddings, people, art, photography and a good story.
We believe that our images should speak volumes about who you are as a person, about your relationships, about the subtle nuances of every day life.
We are about capturing and documenting your life and tell your unique wedding story through beautiful images, with minimal guiding or posing and preserved in a gorgeous custom designed and handcrafted wedding book.
So, what type of photography you do?
Just ask yourself, what do you want to remember about your wedding in 10, 15, 20 years? What do you want your wedding album to show your kids and grandkids? How do you want your story told? and preserved?
Your answers to those questions will help define who is the right photographer for you.
We don’t want to be limited to any specific photographic “genre” but our approach is fresh, natural, organic, relax, and most of all, fun! We focus on those things that make each wedding unique, the essence, the emotions, the details and subtle nuance of the day, the personality and character instead of the traditional images that make every wedding look the same
We cover the bride & groom preparation, ceremony and reception in a very unobtrusive, journalistic way. We won’t stop you during your first dance and ask you to say “cheese” or make you pose while cutting the cake. We prefer to capture them laughing, smiling, crying, dancing, drinking, and having a great time.
Then, when is time to do your couples images, we follow a more editorial approach like you see in high fashion magazine for some fun and beautiful images.
Then, do you still take posed family images?
Absolutely. We strongly believes in those family images, as they are records of your entire family at an important time in their history together.
A few weeks before your wedding you will receive a questionnaire covering the details of the day and among the questions you will have space to write in your own family groupings. PLEASE bear in mind that the hallmark of our wedding day coverage is journalistic and real-time, so a very long list of posed images will hinder our ability to cover the event in a documentary manner. We strongly suggests your final list should include no more than 12 groupings total. These groupings are quick, easy, and largely informal and we tries to make them pleasant and enjoyable for everyone involved!
But, can we give you a shot list of photographs we want you to take?
Other than the family groupings we prefer that you do not. It is very helpful to know what important relatives and friends are coming to your day, and any event that bear special significance, or any important details, but having us work from a “check list” is counterproductive to the work you have seen in our website. “Shot lists” provided by many major bridal magazines are a great idea, but please understand that we generally WILL capture those images without prompting.
Travel and Coverage
Where do you live? Do you travel?
Our studio is based out of San Juan, Puerto Rico and we spend much time in the Dominican Republic and Florida we are available to travel worldwide to capture your wedding.
Once we discuss your destination wedding needs, travel and lodging will be including in your destination wedding collection.
If we commission your studio to do our wedding, who will be the wedding photographer?
David Medina is the sole primary photographer for David Medina Photography.
Do you have an assistant? A second shooter?
Yes, in many occasions we will use additional shooters and assistants to supplement our wedding day coverage. You can always request us to include a second shooter in your coverage.
How many pictures will you take?
The number of photographs taken depends on many things – the number of guests, hours of coverage, types of events. Our bare minimum is 600 images, but often it’s much, much higher.
Do we keep the “negatives”?
Upon request, we can arrange to provide you with high-resolution digital files (the digital equivalent to negatives). When the files are released to you, we will provide you with a list of resources from which to get quality prints. We do retain the copyright to the images and the right to use them for promotional purposes, competition, professional review, and so on. You will get a written release that will allow you to make unlimited personal reproductions and copies for your friends and families.
If we want you at our rehearsal dinner, will you come?
Rehearsal dinner coverage is available if you’d like to add it to your collection; otherwise we do not attend the rehearsals.
How long after the wedding will we see our pictures?
Your images will go through a culling and basic correction process and will be on the online gallery about 4 weeks after the wedding.
How do the wedding book design process work?
We will give you six months to select the images for your album, should your collection include one. If you don’t select your images within that time frame is made and there is no balance due in your account, we will make a first draft design for you. You do get to preview your album design and make one round of changes to it before a change-fee is assessed. Once you approve the layout we will help you choose your album cover style, color, imprinting, and other small details. then you’ll sign off on the book and it will go to print. all of this process can be completed online simply and easily. once you choose your images it usually takes about four to six weeks to produce your first draft and each round of changes generally takes two to three business weeks to complete.
What will my Wedding book look like?
You have choices – we will work for you to design the right book for your style and taste. You can choose between traditional style book, modern flush mount books or Coffee Table style books, all custom designed and handcrafted by some of the world best and most innovative wedding book binders.
What is the online gallery?
The online gallery is a private section on our website where all of your wedding photographs will be placed online for you and your family and friends to view. it is also a secure shopping cart – which allows you (and your family and friends) to order professional prints, canvases, and cards as well as select the images you want in your album. All you have to do is to invite to your online gallery anyone who you want to be able to view the images.
Do you do engagement sessions? Trash the Dress? day after sessions?
Yes we do all of them. However, take note that most engagement sessions have to be done monday-thursday because of a heavy wedding schedule but there is occasionally friday availability and sometimes the rare sunday (but not often!)
Also, because we love what we do and are grateful for your business and trust and we want to get to know you, with most of our Wedding Collections we offer a complimentary (meaning free) 1 hours engagement session. Contact us for details.

Do you have insurance?
Do you belong to any professional organization?
Yes, we are member of several carefully chosen national and international professional organizations. We are proud members of the oldest and most prestigious professional photographers organization, Professional Photographers of America (PPA). We are also members of the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA), the Professional Wedding & Studio Photographers International (PWSPI), the Digital Wedding Forum (DWF), the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (ISPWP) and Wedding & Portraits Photographers International (WPPI).
We are members because we are firm believers of continue education, being accountable to a regulating entity and a community of other professional photographers, and want to be challenged to be the very best we can for the benefit of our brides and the industry.
What kind of equipment do you use?
Top of the line professional Nikon equipment and extensive backups.
How long have you being in business? How many weddings have you photographed?
I have been a professional photographers since 1990 and opened our wedding studio in 2005. We have shot over 200 weddings.
Can you hold a date for me?
I’m sorry, but we can’t hold the date or pencil you in. To be fair to everyone we can’t “hold” a date without a retainer and a signed contract. we accept bookings on a first come/first served basis
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. A booking fee/retainer of $1,000 is due to reserve your date. 50% of your balance is due 7 days before your event with the final amount due 3 months after the wedding. In some instance we can work a more flexible payment plan so contact us if you can benefit from this.
I have to cancel my wedding, can I have my retainer back?
No you cannot. The retainer fee and all monies paid are non-refundable. the retainer guarantees that we will hold the date exclusively for you and once you’ve signed the contract we do turn down all other commissions for that date.
What if you, like, die?
If David dies we can guarantee he will NOT be at your wedding. however, we will still supply you with coverage from our contracted assistant or second shooter (based on your contract). David is also a member of many national and local organizations and networking groups upon which we could call to find you a replacement photographer.
If we decide to commission David Medina for our wedding, when should we book?
ASAP! Since we cannot “hold” dates or “pencil you in”, dates are booked when…well, when they’re booked. most of David’s commissions contract him within a year of the wedding date, sometimes as close as two months prior, sometimes a full calendar year ahead.
How and where do I a book my date?
The booking process is done securely online and all payments can be made online using any major credit card or paypal account. You can also make payments using personal checks or money orders.
If we run overtime, will you stay?
Surely. David does have an overtime rate and it goes into effect only with your permission and approval that he continue coverage. He will bill you for those hours after you return from your honeymoon.
Do you offer discounts for off-season or non-saturday events?
Occasionally discounts are available but are based on time of year, David’s travel schedule, and availability. If you have concerns about your budgetary needs, please contact the studio and let us know.
Do we need to feed you at the reception?
Because of the long hours we work, if the wedding exceed 5 hours, it would be really lovely if you did. it doesn’t have to be the same as your sit-down meal (many caterers offer “vendor meals” as an add-on option) but feeding us ensures that we stays cheerful, mobile, and that we don’t faint from starvation. We prefer to be fed when YOU are fed, not afterwards, because when you are eating you’re not at your most photogenic. And when you’re done, we want to be done as well to continue your coverage.
Can our family and friends take pictures with their cameras? Will that bothers you?
Of course they can and it doesn’t bother us in the least bit! We do request they not swarm the family photographs right away because we prefer all eyes facing us in your images, but we don’t mind at all if they snap away from the background. We do not allow family or friends to come along for the bridal images or the images of you two alone for privacy purposes and because, frankly, other people can be distracting! We welcomes other cameras during dancing, cake cutting, and other events.
