My Kids!

Last week I took time off to be with my family. It has been a very busy wedding season so I took a much needed day off. We went to one of our favorite place, Old San Juan. My boy is into skateboarding, and Old San Juan provide excellent areas to skate. Even I decided to take a crack at Skateboarding, and… well… let say I was all over the floor…

We had a great time and we took some time to take some pictures. Here are some of my favorites.

Carrie & Michael @ El Conquistador

This fun loving couple got married at one of the most beautiful resorts in Puerto Rico, El Conquistador Resort at Fajardo, Puerto Rico.

El Conquistador is one of my top ten favorite places to do a wedding in Puerto Rico. It got beautiful gardens and buildings, rich with textures, patterns and colors.

Carrie and Michael celebrated their wedding next to families and friends . Here are some of my favorite images from the wedding…

10 Reasons to get Married in the Caribbean

While browsing at magazines at our local Border’s, I came across a new magazine called “Caribbean Bride: The Ultimate Caribbean Wedding Guide”. It was launched last month out of Barbados. Caribbean Bride is one of a kind as there is no other like it in the Caribbean. It aims to be a one-stop-shop for everything wedding.

One of its articles give 10 reasons to get married in the Caribbean. They are very god and funny.

  1. Before you even get married you’re already on your honeymoon.
  2. You’ll have a golden tan before the ceremony.
  3. Your wedding cake is made with rum.
  4. You can have a second reception when you get home to show off all over again.
  5. Your fiancé’s aunt Esther who always refers to you as the “chunky bride” isn’t likely to shell out a little extra for the trip so she’ll just have to watch the webcast. Darn.
  6. No shoes required. You can get married barefoot on a beach with the waves hitting your ankles.
  7. No one’s ever heard of the chicken dance.
  8. The weather may be too warm to wear your great-grandmother’s astoundingly heavy brocade and beaded wedding dress she so wanted you to wear some day, bless her heart.
  9. There’s no need for a band. The sound of the waves is music to your ears!
  10. Celebrities do it.
No doubt these 10 “reasons” show that destination weddings offers you an opportunity to have a relaxed and unique wedding in a beautiful Caribbean setting.
And number 11 … If you choose to get Marry in Puerto Rico and you are a U.S. Citizen, you do not need to bring your passport.
While I love formal weddings too, I do a lot of destination weddings and they are very special.

Bessie & Ernesto: A Preview of their Love Story

The weather report announced early this week that, as a consequence of Ike, we were going to had bad weather this weekend. We were very concerned that we weren’t going to be able to do Bessie and Ernesto Love Story. The day started as predicted with rain. as a matter of fact, it has been raining on and off the whole week. It seems that we may have to cancel. Five minutes after arriving to Old San Juan the rain started to pour. Not much, but enough to keep us off my original plan.

But as the saying goes, if life hands you lemons, make lemonade. And that is what we did. At times, if we let ourselves go by conventional wisdom we may miss some gems. I am glad we stuck it out, I walked around looking for a place we could work and decided to go inside the “Cuartel Ballajá”, a turn of the century building with nice Spanish flavor. After a while the sun came out and the rain stopped and we were able to do some shooting outside too.

So, after getting home and download all my cards into my MAC PRO, I just could not wait and quickly selected some of my favorite shots. So here they are.

The Bottom line… Old San Juan is beautiful no matter the weather.

Do you need a Passport to get married in Puerto Rico?

The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 required the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of State to develop and implement a plan to require all travelers, U.S. citizens and foreign nationals alike, to present a passport or other document, or a combination of documents that denote identity and citizenship when entering the United States. Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) Phase I - Air was implemented January 2007.

Beginning January 31, 2008, U.S. and Canadian citizens 19 years and older who enter the United States at land and sea ports of entry from within the Western Hemisphere will need to present government issue photo ID as proof of identity, along with proof of citizenship, such as birth certificate or naturalization certificate, or passport.

Getting Married in Puerto Rico?

Puerto Rico is a destination wedding dream, for good reason. Where else can you have your pick of setting (from pristine beach to ancient church to swank hotel), gourmet catering, and enough rum to keep the most disgruntled in-laws happy? Here is some useful information to help you plan your special day.

Destination weddings combine the intimacy and bliss of marriage with a terrific vacation experience. It’s no surprise that they’re so popular, and even less surprising that the Caribbean is such a favorite destination for wedding planners. Great climate, relaxed atmosphere, friendly people … it’s all here, right? Well, if you’re thinking of getting married in Puerto Rico, you get all that and a…

If you want to get married in Puerto Rico, there is nothing legal or technical stopping you, but you’ll need to plan ahead and get a few documents together, fill in a few forms and pay a few fees.

Puerto Rico has two types of marriage ceremonies, civil and religious. The civil ceremony is the only one that has any legal standing. The civil ceremony requires that the couple have positive identification, such as a passport or birth certificate, a blood test, and wait three days from the filing of the paperwork to the ceremony itself.
