Planning a destination wedding can be a daunting task when you do not know the place. Finding the perfect venue of your dream is the key element to make your wedding vision a reality. Of course, you then need to find the right photographer to capture and preserve your memories forever. But more of that later. Let us just focus on your wedding venue.
Being a tropical paradise we do have lots of incredible places for weddings, specially if you want a beach wedding. So here are my favorite Puerto Rico Wedding Resorts and beach venues based on my experience as wedding photographer at those venues and in some cases, also as a guest.
Have you heard the term “location, location, location”, well, it does apply equally well or even more important to weddings. The right venue can turn your dreams into a reality or the wrong one into a nightmare. In my opinion, fifty percent of great wedding images is due to the right location. It will inspire romance, elegance and passion that will get you in the right mood for spectacular photos.
We have also stayed at some of this venues for family vacation so we can experience first hand their service, not just as a vendor, but as a guest too.
Here is a list of my top 10 favorite wedding venues in Puerto Rico.
El Conquistador Resort
El Conquistador Resort, Fajardo, Puerto Rico, has one of the most spectacular views in Puerto Rico with ultimate luxury. It is truly a world apart.
The food is top in Puerto Rico having won many culinary awards. In my opinion, the most beautiful place to have an outdoor wedding in Puerto Rico with ceremonies held over a bluff overlooking the Caribbean Sea.
For your guest they have their own water park, marina, and private island. Close to the El Yunque Rain Forest, Culebra and Vieques, great scuba diving, deep sea fishing, horseback riding on the beach, Golf courses and just a short trip from historical Old San Juan.. Easily combined as a wedding venue, honeymoon and family vacation.
El Convento Hotel
Hotel El Convento, Old San Juan. For a very unique Old World experience there is nothing like Old San Juan and El Convento Hotel. As a history lover, it is my favorite venue.
Right in the middle of Old San Juan with its over 500 years of history, El Convento is located across the second oldest cathedral in the New World, La Catedral de San Juan Bautista and very close to El Castillo de San Felipe del Morro. Many choose to marry either at the Cathedral and cross the streets to celebrate at El Convento or just down the street at La Rogativa or El Morro fortress.
Beautiful reception rooms in deep colonial woods with black and white mar mol floors and big chandeliers. And the food and service is second to none. Top notch staff that is always looking out for you and your guests. From its old world rooms, to its indoor courtyard to its luxurius ballrooms, El Convento is a wonderful place for a wedding.
Your guest will also have lots to do. Not only because they will be able to explore the streets of Old San Juan, two major fortresses. one Palace, hundreds of historical houses, great restaurants, bars and stores, but they will be close to everything, from beaches to Plaza las Américas to the Barcardi rum factory.
Ritz-Carlton San Juan
Ritz-Carlton, San Juan Hotel, Spa & Casino, San Juan. If you are looking for a hotel with a glamorous and vintage feel and look to it with an incredible service and food and that is right in the beach, you just found it at the Ritz. You can have the wedding under the gazebo and your reception under the stars right at the beach with a fantastic gourmet BB-Q.
Or if you want a hotel that has an arquitecture reminisce of the Grand hotels of the 1940 and the 1950, the Ritz is the perfect venue. It is close to the airport, right in one of the best of Puerto Rico beaches and close to Old San Juan and Plaza las Americas, the largest mall in the Caribbean.
El Gran Melia Resort
El Gran Meliá Resort, Rio Grande. Puerto Rico. The Gran Melia has a very distinct elegance with beautiful arquitecture. It is secluded to a verdant swath of land along Puerto Rico’s northeastern coast in Coco Beach.
Gran Meliá Puerto Rico Resort is a bold utopia of tropical flora and fauna, and sophisticated architecture; swallowed by the turquoise waters of the Atlantic. That is how it is described and I have to agree. Great venue if you are looking for a private, intimate and very unique wedding. Their rooms are beautiful for great getting ready images.
Next to a world class 36 holes championship golf course – Trump International Golf Club Puerto Rico – El Yunque rain Forest, horseback riding in the beach, and much more, your guest will have plenty to keep them having fun.
El San Juan Hotel
El San Juan Hotel & Casino, San Juan, is the ultimate in Old World elegance. One of the oldest grand hotels in Puerto Rico has a unique elegance. The hotel is nested along one of the most beautiful beaches in Puerto Rico, Isla Verde. It is close to the airport, right in one of the best of Puerto Rico beaches and close to Old San Juan and Plaza las Americas, the largest mall in the Caribbean.
La Concha Renaissance Resort
La Concha, A Renaissance Resort, Condado, is another excellent spot for wedding. Recently remodeled and brought back as a very chic hotel, it is the perfect venue if your are looking for the grand ballroom elegance experience amid a modern, fashionable hotel, right at the beach. Recently renovated, la Concha has a lot of history as one of the prominent local and international artist venue.
You can have your ceremony at the beach and then have your wedding from one of their restaurants to an elegant ballroom or a Mirador overlooking the Caribbean sea and El Condado area. La Concha (shell) gets its name from one of their restaurant overlooking the ocean with a shell shaped celling and floating over water pool.
Castillo Serralles, Ponce. This arquitectural marvel was the residence of the Serralles family, founders and owners of Don Q rum. It has been featured in the Travel Channel and Discovery Channel as one of the most esquisit castles in the United States. A historical landmark is now is a museums and is a very popular and sought after wedding venue. Sitting high above the city of Ponce, the castle is surrounded by beautiful gardens and an incredible view. If you are catholic you could have your ceremony at beautiful Ponce Cathedral and then head up hill to the castle.
Rincón Ocean Villa
Rincón Ocean Villa. Rincón. One of the best kept secrets, the Rincón Ocean Villa, hides in one of the most beautiful beaches and spectacular sunsets in Puerto Rico. Located on the island west coast (in my opinion, the best beaches are there), is situated in the midst of 3.5 gated acres of lush tropicals, along a commanding stretch of golden sand beach, this 14,000–square–foot villa offers the perfect escape: an exquisite setting to be enjoyed by you and your invited guests alone. Rincón of the Seas Grand Caribbean Hotel
Rincón of the Seas, Grand Caribbean Hotel, Located in Puerto Rico west coast, is well known as a surfing paradise and for its breathtaking sunsets. If you want to get away from the main cities, and desire a quite, romantic, yet all the amenities you expect from a major resort, the Rincón of the Seas is the place. Right on the beach, and with perfect view.
Casa de España
Casa España, San Juan, is one of Puerto Rico high society favorite wedding venues. It has an authentic spanish-morish arquitecture and flavor that it will transport you to colonial times. It was built in 1932 to house a private civic and cultural organization composed of Spanish citizens living in Puerto Rico. Just plain romantic and beautiful.
Rincón Beach Resort is perfect for small get away weddings; Caribe Hilton is one of the legendary hotels in Puerto Rico and enjoys one of the most beautiful spots in San Juan; and the Intercontinental Hotel is the perfect spot for large, grand ballroom type of weddings; El Hotel Guajataca is one of the oldest paradores in Puerto Rico, it has a nice ocean view but has a small reception area.
